Family Law Attorney
The field of practice normally termed “Family Law” is a blanket term intended to cover a wide range of issues and problems that need to be legally responded to. Fowler & Williams can handle all of these type of issues. If you need assistance or legal advice involving any of the following areas, we are just a phone call away.
Third Party Custody
Guardianship or Conservatorship Over a Minor
Personal Protection Orders
Our specialty is handling high-conflict family law cases. Most Michigan family law attorneys shy away from handling cases where the parties are acrimonious, bitter, angry or have personality disorders which make compromise difficult. The cases are stressful, often contain serious and disturbing allegations going back and forth between the parties, and many attorneys simply do not wish to take on such difficult, complicated matters.
We not only accept such cases and work with these clients, we will handle any of them that come to us. We have dealt with cases involving claims of parental alienation, parental estrangement, allegations of psychological issues, CPS involvement and any other scenario imaginable. When it comes to those cases, a hands-on, direct approach is necessary to gain control of the situation.
Our goal is to stop the other side’s attempts to raise conflict, settle the waters, and get to the bottom of what is really the cause of the conflict in the case, and work towards a resolution. When a resolution by settlement in such cases is not possible, we have no problem taking the matter to hearing or trial if we have to.
We have utilized experts in many fields to help and resolve various conflicts that can arise in the context of family law matters.
Whether that means hiring psychological experts, parenting time or custody evaluators, using Guardians ad Litem or other Court appointed personnel, or the use of forensic accountants, tax experts, appraisers or any other professionals that might be necessary, we have the connections and experience to do what’s necessary to resolve your case.
Given our vast trial experience, our firm is never afraid to try a case, or conduct a hearing before the Court related to any of the issues that lead to people filing suit in family court, or that arise later in the process.
Lastly, with the U.S. Supreme Court finally allowing for same sex couples to marry and start families, inevitably, the statistics suggest that some of those marriages may end in divorce, or there may be custody battles over adopted children.
The Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges not only allowed for those same sex couples to marry, but, ostensibly, provides them the same access to the Courts for purposes of divorcing or fighting for custody.
We’ve seen these cases many times, and we are happy and honored to represent parties in same sex divorce matters anywhere in Michigan.
